How Much Upstart Epoxy Do I Need?

Upstart Epoxy epoxy calculator will help you determine how much epoxy resin is needed to build your next project!

    Project Length - Inches:
    Project Width - Inches:
    Pour Depth:
    Volume:
    Gallons Required:

Measuring our epoxy can be a tricky thing. We get asked all the time “how much epoxy do I need?” And that changes depending on each and every project.

By understanding your measurements before you even open your bottles is crucial. Once you open your bottles, you have under an hour to mix and pour before your epoxy starts to harden.

But don’t worry, we’ve put together an epoxy calculator that will help you understand exactly what you need, for whatever project you’re working on.

How much epoxy do I need?

The simple answer: Measure the length, width, and depth of your project in inches. Then put those numbers into the resin calculator above.

How much epoxy resin do I need for a river table?

By using our epoxy resin calculator, you can identify the correct amount of deep-pour epoxy resin for your river table project.

First have your tape measure ready, you will need to find the length of the pour, the width of the pour, as well as the depth of your pour - take all of these measurements in inches.

Once you have those three measurements, add them into our resin calculator, and then you’ll have that magic number!

One last tip while using the river table epoxy calculator above, always round up and give yourself extra epoxy to work with.

How much epoxy do I need for a seal coat?

Upstart Epoxy’s formula is FDA Food Safe, UV resistant, and water resistant, which makes it the number one choice when sealing up and putting a finish on any project.

But understanding how much tabletop resin you need depends on how large your surface is. In inches, take the length, width, and the depth of your pour (when you’re sealing a tabletop this is generally 1/8in).

Take those measurements and plug them into the calculator above. From there you’ll have the answer to the million dollar question “how much resin do I need?”

Tips and tricks to save some epoxy

It’s always better to air on the side of having 20% more epoxy than your project needs. That doesn’t mean you have to use it all. We’ve put together a few tips to help you control your epoxy use, now that you know exactly how much epoxy you need from the epoxy calculator.

    1. Use a mold for your project: When working with a project like a river table, it is crucial that you seal all of your edges so that no epoxy goes to waste.
    2. Wait to pour until you’re ready: Make sure that you have confirmed your measurements and used the epoxy calculator before your pour. This will ensure you don’t spend your working time with the epoxy measuring, you’ll be able to go right into your pour.
    3. Scrape the sides of your cup when mixing: The last thing you want is to ruin a whole batch of epoxy. Scrape the sides of your cup while mixing to ensure that you don’t waste epoxy, and that you get the exact amount the epoxy calculator directed.

    Bar top deep pour.

I routed down 3 levels of this 4.5 inch thick live edge log bar top. I scattered and glued down memorabilia including old cell phones, money from our travels, bullets and shells of all calibers, arrowheads, old jewelry, various colored stones and agates, various miniatures, old fishing lures, etc, etc. I used the Deep Pour first, a heat gun easily eliminated tiny air bubbles but as the epoxy started to set some larger bubbles escaped the submerged objects. I used a medical syringe with a small needle to suck the bubbles out. The finishing pour left a glass like finish. Love it.

    Not watery - great pour!

I’ve used a lot of deep pour type epoxies and this is the first one that isn’t watery when you mix and pour. A lot of the ones I’ve used are still very fluid even 24 hours, which makes getting designs into the epoxy difficult. The Upstart epoxy was different from the beginning. The epoxy and hardener mixed beautifully and the liquid was not completely watery but was able to pour easily. It leveled well and the colors looked great. I was able to hit it with a heat gun and all bubbles popped immediately. Before I did the pour I called and asked questions and the customer service was very helpful - the key is that this epoxy doesn’t stay liquid my as long as others so it can be swirled earlier. I’m glad I asked because by the next day the top had already solidified! The finished product cured beautifully and is true beauty

    Deep Pour

Use Deep Pour for the first time and thought it was great. Being new to using epoxy it was nice to have plenty of time to adjust the pigment color and fill without feeling that I had to rush before it began to set.
